Pore strips are immensely satisfying and almost completely ineffective for actual pore care. What looks like 'pulled gunk' on the strip is normal skin oil structures (sebaceous filaments) — they regenerate in days.
Why pore strips damage skin
Pulling adhesive from skin removes superficial skin cells, disrupts barrier, and can stretch pore walls (making them appear larger longer-term). The temporary visual win produces longer-term skin damage.
What actually reduces pore appearance
Salicylic acid (oil-soluble, dissolves what's inside pores). Daily SPF (prevents sun-driven pore widening). Niacinamide (regulates sebum). Retinoids (improves skin texture around pores). None give the satisfying visual but all deliver real change over months.
Skip pore strips. Salicylic acid in a leave-on serum produces better and lasting results without the barrier damage.
