Why Your Skincare Routine Should Change With Seasons

A single year-round routine usually underperforms in at least one season. UK winters dehydrate skin; summers shift sebum production and sun exposure. Adjusting twice a year matches what your skin needs.

Winter (October-March) adjustments

Switch to cream cleanser. Add facial oil over moisturiser. Use richer night cream (CeraVe Moisturising Cream, La Roche-Posay Cicaplast). Reduce exfoliation frequency by 30-50%. Skin barrier is more compromised by central heating and cold air.

Summer (April-September) adjustments

Lighter gel moisturiser. Daily mineral SPF 50. Add vitamin C serum if not already. Slightly increase exfoliation (cell turnover faster, can tolerate more). Watch for hyperpigmentation worsening — increase tranexamic acid or azelaic if relevant.

Twice-yearly routine adjustments take 10 minutes and prevent the worst seasonal skin frustrations.
